Come Blow your horn
A poster is created after being assigned the play Come Blow Your Horn (1961) by Neil Simon. The play exhibits themes of familial dynamics, personal growth and identity, as well as deceptive appearances. It follows main character, Alan Baker, as he navigates the changes he wants to see in his life. He decides he wants to settle down instead of continuing his frivolous life style he’s established through frequent partying. An illustration of him contemplating his life choices in the middle of a party scene symbolizes the inner turmoil he faces throughout the plot of the play. The expressive typography on the catchy headline “Is Life Just a Party?” uses elements such as a martini glass and the edges of poker chips. The typeface chosen was a nod to the 60s era that the play is set in. A glow effect is used on the title of the play to reference a neon sign. The texture placed over the poster helps convey its vintage style.
